Ink Review: Cult Pens Deep Dark Orange (Diamine Exclusive for Cult Pens)

Cult Pens Deep Dark Orange is one of the 6 inks in the “Deep Dark” range that are made exclusively for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks.

Deep Dark Orange is a saturated dark orange ink that exhibits some very nice shading. I found it flowed very well with all of the pens I tried it in, felt quite wet, and it’s lubrication was very smooth across the page.

It’s a dark orange, copper coloured ink, that lives up to it’s name very well. It’s different to many of my orange comparison inks, being more saturated, and leaning slightly more red than Diamine Ancient Copper and slightly less red than Diamine Blood Orange. Compared with Montblanc Leonardo Red Chalk it felt significantly wetter and smoother, so it’s an excellent replacement for that very hard to find ink, although Deep Dark Orange is less brown.

My review was written on 100gsm smooth coated paper, that is not very absorbent, and I saw no spread, show-through or bleed-through. It dried fairly quickly on this smooth paper.

When I wrote with the Lamy B nib, I noticed a few dots of what I call “halo-spread” or woolly line on some of the lines. However my Lamy Safari with B nib writes like a hose-pipe with every ink.

Cult Pens Deep Dark Orange is not sold as a waterproof ink but showed a little water resistance.

It washed off of my hands easily with bar soap and water, and didn’t stain my pens or the insides of my converters that I rinsed out with warm water as usual.

Available in 80ml and 30ml bottles plus International sized cartridges from Cult Pens web-site
